MISSION STATEMENT
1. To promote awareness of the various disciplines
in Biological Sciences.
2. Examine ways of helping students who are interested in Biological
Sciences succeed while focusing and mapping out strategies to help
them scale through Biology.
3. Collaborate with the various research institutions and individual
educators to explore methods of having our interested biology students
work with them during the summer. This will hopefully give the students
a sound understanding of research methods and prepare them for the
future.
4. To have a firm grasp of the basic principles and concepts in
biological sciences techniques and be able to implement them through
workshops.
5. Promote the formation of study groups and peer tutors for courses
offered in the biological sciences department.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the biology Club is open to all
current enrolled students at Montgomery College, Takoma Park Campus
as well as any interested faculty and staff or administrator without
regard to age, sex, race, color, religious belief, national origin
or handicap.
LEADERSHIP
The officers of the Biology Club will include
the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and a Representative
for Student meetings. Each will be nominated and elected by majority
vote of attending members at a specified club meeting, publicized
for the purpose at least three weeks in advance.
Each officer will remain in office for one year contingent upon
continued registration as a student at the Takoma Park Campus, maintenance
of a 2.0 grade point average and attendance to 72% of required meetings.
An officer may be removed from office if a club member expresses
concern over his/her ability or judgment at a meeting. The officer
in question must be notified in writing by mail at least 10 days
prior to the meeting, in which he/she may provide an explanation
(this right is waived if he/she does not attend the meeting) to
be followed by a general discussion, and vote by the membership
in attendance.
A 2/3-majority vote is required for the removal from office.
In case of removal of the President, the Vice President will become
Acting President until elections are held. In case of removal of
another officer, the President will appoint a temporary officer.
Elections must be held within six (6) weeks of removal from office.

| President: |
Preside at all meetings, appoint all committee chairpersons,
and present all motions to the membership |
| Vice President: |
Assume the duties of the President in his/her absence,
advice committee Chairperson, make arrangements for and publicize
meetings. |
| Secretary / Treasurer: |
Keep club records, take and prepare minutes for distribution,
keep an account of financial transactions, handle correspondence. |
| Club Representative: |
Attend all student senate meetings, report to club
members regarding Student Senate activities, and present request
for funding to the Student Senate. |
MEETINGS
The Executive Council of the Biology Council
will meet two times between September and May and once a month between
June and August. Any member may call a special meeting. Agenda items
must be submitted to the secretary and/or Treasurer by noon, the
day prior to each meeting. Minutes will be taken at each meeting
and approved at the following meeting. A quorum will consist of
minimum of seven members.

| COMMITTEES

| Program Committee: |
Reviews feasibility of the club events and activities.
Prepares lists of key tasks to be done, proposes budget and coordinates
(or assigns responsibility) for the event manager. |
| Public Committee: |
Plans and coordinates promotional efforts for the
club events and activities. Designs, distributes or post ads, posters,
flyers, writes articles, etc. Special committees will be formed
for specific purposes and will be dissolved once the purpose has
been met. |
DUES
Dues are not required to become a member of the
Montgomery College, Takoma Park Biology Club.
FACULTY/STAFF ADVISORS
The advisor of the Biology Club shall be any
interested staff or faculty member of the college; he/she shall
serve a one-year term, which is renewable each fall semester.
RULES OF ORDER
The Biology Club shall abide by the committees'
rules of order.
STATEMENT OF CONFORMITY
The Biology Club shall abide by the rules and
regulations of the college and its official agencies.
SERVICE COMPONENT
The Biology Club will participate in one service
activity to the campus or community each semester.
AMENDMENTS
Amendments to this constitution will require
a vote of 2/3 votes with a least 40% of the active members present.
Amendments will become official when approved by the Student Senate.
STATEMENT OF ORIGINAL APPROVAL
This constitution shall become official only
after approval, which is duly noted in the official records of the
Student Senate.
