  FAQ

Q1. Can I participate in the College Institute if I am not a Wootton, Gaithersburg, John F Kennedy, or Seneca Valley High School student?
Answer - Currently The College Institute program is limited to students at Wootton, Gaithersburg, John F Kennedy, and Seneca Valley High Schools.  However, Montgomery College offers the Early Placement Program which allows selected high school seniors from any high school to enhance their class schedule with college-level credit course work and experience the independence of college-level study. These students would enroll in a Montgomery College class on the Germantown, Rockville, or Takoma Park campuses. Montgomery College and Montgomery County Public Schools plan to expand the College Institute to other parts of the County in the future.

Q2. How many college classes can I take through the College Institute?
Answer - Most College Institute students enroll in one or two college courses each semester.

Q3. When do the classes meet?
Answer - Classes meet two or three times each week during the normal school day. Science labs are held at a Montgomery College campus and are scheduled during afternoon or evening hours.

Q4. Do I need to take DS 107 (First Year Seminar)?
Answer: -
Yes, all students must enroll in DS 107 (First Year Seminar) during their initial semester in the College Institute. This one-credit course meets once a week for the entire semester.

Q5. Will the classes I take in the College Institute affect my high school grade point average?

Answer - No.  Students earn college grades and earn college credits which are entered on a college transcript.  The grades are NOT included in the calculation of a high school g.p.a. and do NOT appear on the high school transcript.

Q6. How do I get a transcript for the classes I take through the College Institute?
Answer - You must request a transcript from Montgomery College for any course work taken through the College Institute using a Transcript request form.
