Course Description: This course is an introduction to the
evolution of Western and non-Western economic societies. Different
approaches to the organization of economic activities by culturally
diverse societies are emphasized. Specific economic changes in
Western Europe and the United States leading to the emergence of the
market system are traced. The emergence of economic thought and
methods, from mercantilism to Keynes, is included. Students will
review various adaptations of the market system by distinct cultures
leading to the present interconnected world economy. (HUMD[M]) (CE:
