Many internship programs are offered by departments to majoring students or those pursuing concentrations or certificates. Other programs are open to students regardless of major. Student
Employment Services.
Student Employment Services
teaches students and recent graduates the skills that they need to become
successfully employed. SES assists students in matching career or job
goals to employment openings, and places students in cooperative education
and internship programs related to their majors. SES sponsors Part Time
Job Fairs in the fall and Career Information Job Fairs in the spring.
SES manages a jobs data base that contains the employment opportunities
that are submitted by employers in the Washington Metropolitan area. In
addition, SES facilitates on- campus recruiting opportunities for employers.

Advertising Art AA285: Students work for college credit in a professional advertising art studio, lab, or other facility. |

American
Sign Language.
The Department offers an independent study practical internship of up 4 -credit hours as part of SL 285. The studies in this independent course will help students who want to make the most of their skills, using ASL in practical situations (interpreting, peer tutoring, helping other students, or working in Deaf environment). Pre- or corequisites: SL 269 and an earned score of 3.0 or better in the ASL Proficiency Interview, or consent of department. Fifteen hours of work each week to earn three semester hours; 20 hours of work each week to earn four semester hours. |

Architecture Department offers a professional practicum. Students must be second-year standing in curriculum. Eight hours of seminar discussions each semester and a minimum of 80 hours of work experience required per semester hour. A student may not repeat the practicum more than four times. |

Automotive
Apprenticeship training programs are provided as a service to the business community seeking to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of their employees. The programs assist in developing the skilled workers needed to compete in today economy. Apprenticeship training is a combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction in which workers learn the practical and theoretical aspects of a highly skilled occupation. |

Biomed
Scholars
The Biomedical
Scholars Program is an exciting personalized program, designed to increase
academic performance, enhance the learning experience in the sciences, and
pave the way to successful careers in the Biomedical Sciences. Biomedical
Scholars are part of a small learning community of peers and faculty.
They receive a broad range of both academic and personal support and are
mentored by Montgomery College’s outstanding science and math faculty.
Following their freshman year in which students take math, chemistry and
biology, the Biomedical Scholars participate in summer research
internships at area universities and biotechnology firms. The Biomedical
Scholars Program is highly competitive, with students selected during the
latter part of their senior year in high school. |

Biotechnology
The Biotechology Dept., Germantown campus and Workforce Development, offers internship/practicums in biotechnology to its students. Practicums are working internships designed to provide students enrolled in the biotechnology program the opportunity to gain "real world" experience in the biotechnology industry. At the internship location, students will be trained and work alongside employees at the company to which they are assigned. The student is expected to be trained in and perform the same duties as regular employees. The lab supervisor at the internship site will confer with the biotechnology coordinator to determine what laboratory tasks are appropriate to each individual student's internship experience. PREREQUISITES: Enrollment in the biotechnology program, completion of two or more biotechnology laboratory classes with a GPA of 2.5 or above, and consent of coordinator. May be taken up to three times for credit. |

Cooperative
Education and Internship Program.
This program helps students from a wide variety of majors obtain full and part-time job experiences in their field of study. Students receive academic credit for their work in companies throughout the metropolitan area. The program provides employers with a pool of pre-screened, high achieving applicants, follow-up to track student's work progress, and a cost effective way to recruit highly motivated employee. |

Applications Internship Program (CA 269).
The Computer Applications Department offers internships for credit to students who have completed 12 credit hours in the CA Department and have maintained a GPA of 2.5. Internships are available in web design, database design, administrative support, web-based graphics design, help desk software support, and others. Offered in conjunction with the Computer Applications Department. Seminar course meets 4 times during the internship semester. Course can be retaken up to a maximum four (4) credits. The Computer Science Department offers internships for credit to students who have completed 12 credit hours in the CS Department and have maintained a GPA of 2.5. Internships are available in computer programming, database design, PC installation, network administration and help desk, among others. Offered in conjunction with the Computer Applications Department. Seminar course meets 4 times during internship semester. Course can be retaken up to a maximum four (4) credits. | TechLEAP
TechLEAP retrains students with existing college degrees for six
intensive months (nights and Saturdays) in computer programming, web,
and database (C++, Visual Basic, Java, Oracle, Access, XHTML, CGI/PERL,
DreamWeaver MX Suite) or computer network administration (e.g., Windows
2000 Professional, Active Directory, Cisco, Novell, Linux/Unix). TechLEAP
arranges internships of 2-6 months with Information Technology businesses,
government agencies (NIH, NIST) and IT departments following and as part
of this training. TechLEAP is offered twice annually, starting in September
and January semesters. | ||||
