Meet with a counselor each semester prior to registering for classes
This is the first and most important point to understand about planning for transfer.
    • Seek assistance from an MC advisor EACH semester when choosing courses.  Each campus has counselors who can assist with transfer advising.  Identify yourself from the start as a student who is interested in transferring to a four-year school.
  • Make an appointment to choose classes midway through each semester for maximum assistance.  Advisers have less time to talk to you during peak registration times (April/May, July/August and late December/January are considered peak times).  You can, and should, discuss class choices even before class schedules come out.  Class schedules are generally published on these dates:  April 1 - Summer Schedule; Late April - Fall Schedule; Mid-November - Spring Schedule.
  • At the Rockville Campus, Departmental Advisors can assist you with planning for specific majors.  Use this list to find advisors by major:  http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/Departments/studevgt/Advisors.htm
  • Ideal times for transfer advising discussions:  Fall - October through November, Spring - February through April.
