Beacon is an annual conference that celebrates the achievements of two-year college students in research and writing. Sponsored by a coalition of member colleges, it creates an opportunity for outstanding students to showcase their research papers in varied academic disciplines.

Students work with their faculty mentors to submit papers that demonstrate outstanding scholarship and originality. All papers submitted are read and the top three in each category are selected for presentation at the annual Beacon Conference held on the first Friday of June.

Presentations are judged on originality and quality of research, written work, and oral presentation. The judge for each academic category chooses an outstanding presenter. Both the presenter and the presenter's faculty mentor are recognized at the closing session and are awarded $100.00 each.

The Beacon Conference will be held on June 5, 2009 at Montgomery College. You can find all the Beacon information at http://www.beaconconference.org
