Montgomery College to Hold Series of Events in Honor of Black History Month
Talk By Jena 6 Attorney POSTPONED until later date; Rockville Campus Will Host Variety of Other Events in February
During the month of February, Montgomery College invites the public to attend a series of free talks, discussions, and events in honor of Black History Month. Each of the following events will take place at the College’s Rockville Campus, located at 51 Mannakee Street in Rockville, Md. On Thursday, February 21 at 7:30 a.m., the College will host the Annual Business Community Black History Month Breakfast in the Theatre Arts Arena. The program will focus on networking and celebrating the successes and future opportunities for minority business in Montgomery County. Dr. Pradeep Ganguly, director of the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, will be featured speaker. This event is sponsored by the College, the African American Chamber of Commerce, the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, and the Montgomery County branch of the NAACP-Economic Initiative. The scheduled talk with Louis G. Scott has been POSTPONED. Scott, the attorney for Mychal Bell, one of the Jena 6 defendants, will speak at Montgomery College in the near future. Once this event is rescheduled, details will be posted on the College's website.
On Wednesday, February 27 at 1 p.m., the College will show journalist Bill Moyers’ interview with Shelby Steele, which aired previously on television. Steele, an African American conservative, social critic, and Moyers talked about the black perspective and politics. Following the video, Dr. Alonzo Smith of the Rockville Campus History and Political Science Department will lead a discussion. This event will be held in Room 216 of the Technical Center.
