Media Advisory Date: April 16, 2008 Nearly 400 School Children to Celebrate Earth Day at Montgomery College April 18
FRIDAY, APRIL 18
Montgomery College–Takoma Park/Silver Spring Nearly 400 elementary school students will participate in Montgomery College’s fourth annual Earth Day event at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus on Friday, April 18. Organized by the campus biology department, the event will feature Montgomery College students, faculty and staff educating school children about the environment with a series of fun, hands-on activities.
The children will “build” terrariums out of recycled materials. Other activities include learning about natural resources, taking a trip to the College’s planetarium on campus and visiting with T-Recs, the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department’s mascot. Children will get an up-close look at colorful and gentle reptiles from Michael Shwedick of Reptile World. They will also visit with creepy and crawly critters such as leeches, beetles and worms, plus beautiful butterflies in the butterfly house. # # # |
