Montgomery College is offering a new certificate program for individuals interested in acquiring the skill set necessary to develop a strategic sustainability action plan. The course, Introduction to Environmental and Social Sustainability, is a core requirement for this certificate program. Three concentration tracks will be offered in the upcoming semester in the following areas: Sustainability Supply Chain, Green and Renewable Energy, and Green Marketing. An optional 4-month "apprenticeship" program will also be offered, providing the student with an opportunity to work with company stakeholders to develop a sustainability action plan.

Introduction to Environmental and Social Sustainability MGT348

This class introduces basic concepts and frameworks of sustainability to provide you with a solid understanding of how sustainability works, why it is important, and how to use sustainability as a lens for good business strategy. You will participate in weekly online classes, with reading and writing assignments in between class meetings.
Topics covered include creating a sustainability plan, employee engagement, energy and climate change, and sustainability reporting and communication. Students registered for this class are required to have a headset with microphone. Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only.

Green Collar Jobs, MGT350

Have you wondered what a "green collar job" is and how you can gain the skills to obtain one? This stand-alone course will review career paths for more technical and vocational "green" jobs, discuss training options, and review training programs and resources relevant to those career paths. The information provided in this course will enable you to better navigate the world of green collar jobs and determine what career path may be most suitable for you.

Introduction to Green Careers, MGT349

"Green Jobs" are a hot topic right now. But what is a "Green Job"? What about a "Green Career"? This stand-alone course will provide definitions of green jobs and introduce you to potential green career paths. Topics covered will include "hot" green careers, creating a green career (as opposed to having a green job), and positioning yourself to stand out from the many applicants for a green position. The course is suited for career changers as well as recent graduates and will also provide resources to help participants with the green career search.

Montgomery College's Green Routine

As part of MC's Green Routine, the new Rockville Campus Science Center Going Green, our podcast is being submitted for Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. The new high energy performance Science Center is expected to save approximately 39% per year in energy costs over traditional code compliant buildings.
